Summer is all about Tycho.
Spent the day going through old art when I found this drawing I did of a guy I dated a while ago. I felt kind of sad about it for like a split second, but then I realized that the picture was way cooler than our relationship and that I moved on a long time ago.
I think thats why I love drawing the people I know. The drawings become these strange emotional time capsules.
Colored an old pencil drawing. Red gives everything such extreme undertones.
This semester kind of kicked my butt, but I will interact with you all in a few weeks I swear.
Did some environment concept work based on the book Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell for a class assignment… Neither turned out like I had planned and they dont quite do the book justice, but this was my first time doing anything like this so I guess I can cut myself some slack for once.
These were really interesting to do, but I think I need to get into pure digital painting ….These days Ive been incorporating pencil drawings into Photoshop which has been leaving me on the verge of an aneurism after needless hours and hours of work. (Dealing with the interaction between smooth digital texture and a whole bunch of grain has been really challenging.)
(Also whyyy is color so super hard.)
I have been being a reclusive schmuck a little too much lately, and since I have some loooong flights and layovers ahead of me you guys should send me some quick prompts to doodle! I will do as many as I can, and the responses will probably be posted by Friday evening. So stay tuned!
(Try to send via ask, its easier to respond that way. Thanks!)
People tend to tell me that repetition is pointless. I tell them I disagree.
Quick studies for an illustration Im working on. More on that soon!
Matching nun characters for class! Unfortunately for the sake of the deadline I rushed the designs, but Id like to revisit these ladies in the future when I have some free time.
So, like, when I retire.
Our assignment in Character Design this week was to create an anthropomorphized version of a professor. I chose Franz Spohn, a printmaking professor I had last semester who sometimes wears a fez and makes celebrity portraits out of gumballs. (I have never felt so creepy doing an assignment before… life of an animation major I guess.)
Also, I am the supreme ruler of all tangents.
Taking a Character Design class right now, which is a great opportunity and is a blast, but me being a horrible perfectionist is already keeping me from getting things done on time. Our first assignment/warmup is a self portrait character design. This is the expression sheet part of it.
More on this later. For now there is no heat in my apartment and I just want to get under a whole bunch of covers.
